BRADENTON, FL — Jamal Blakely was arrested for the 2012 murders of two men during a home invasion gone wrong, the Manatee County Sheriff's Office said in a news release.
Detectives say the 26-year-old shot and killed roommates Adrian Velasquez Baca, 52, and Mauricio Maldonado Conde, 64, at their home in the 600 block of 61st Avenue Terrace East in Bradenton. Feb. 7, 2012.
Deputies were called to their home Feb. 7, 2012 around 11:30 p.m. after reports that the men hadn't been seen or heard from in three days.
Jamal Blakely faces two second-degree murder charges. (Manatee County Sheriff's Office) Autopsy results found that both men died from gunshot wounds, the sheriff's office said. Detectives believe the shooting started as a home invasion robbery.
During the investigation, Blakely was identified as a suspect and evidence linked him to the crime scene, the sheriff's office said.
An arrest warrant was issued for him Thursday and he faces two counts of second-degree murder with a firearm. He's currently serving 35 years in prison for sexual battery.
