Harlem Shooting Catches Bystander In Crossfire: Police

HARLEM, NY — Police are searching for a man who allegedly hit a bystander with a stray bullet when he fired at a passing vehicle in Harlem last month. On Jan. 9 at around 10:30 p.m., the victim, a 39-year-old man, was walking on West 134th Street near Amsterdam Avenue when he heard shots, felt pain in his right leg, and realized he had been shot, according to police. The man was taken to Harlem Hospital in stable condition. Police later determined that an unidentified suspect had shot at another person who was riding inside a gray vehicle nearby. One of the shots hit the victim, believed to be an unintended target. The gray vehicle fled, as did the suspect, who police described only as a male between 20 and 30 years old. Police released surveillance footage Friday showing the man near the site of the shooting from the same night.
