Description
HOWARD COUNTY, MD — The winter storm forecast for Howard County Thursday ended up bringing more sleet than snow, prompting the National Weather Service to downgrade the winter storm warning to a winter weather advisory that remains in effect through 6 a.m. Friday. Forecasters anticipate mixed precipitation falling Thursday into Friday with additional snow and sleet accumulations of up to one inch and ice accumulations of up to one-tenth of an inch. Travelers are warned to plan on slippery road conditions.
The Snow Emergency Plan has been enacted in Howard County for Thursday. The Maryland State Police also declared snow emergencies and parking is prohibited on snow emergency routes. Vehicles must use snow tires, all weather tires or chains.
County offices closed Thursday along with the Alpha Ridge Landfill. Thursday's curbside trash and recycling pickups are to slide one day. The RTA suspended all fixed route bus and Mobility paratransit services Thursday due to poor road conditions.
