BLADENSBURG, MD ā Wounded firefighter Evan Webster got a special greeting when he was released from MedStar Washington Hospital Center on Monday. Officials said Webster sustained serious burns battling a Riverdale house fire on Feb. 6. The firefighter left the District of Columbia hospital with bandages around his fingers. Webster's comrades from the Bladensburg Volunteer Fire Department pulled up to the hospital in a firetruck with its lights on. They drove Webster back to the station where he was greeted by other fire apparatus, police cars and Bladensburg Mayor Takisha James. "Definitely glad to be back," Webster said in a video. "It'll be a long road to recovery, but nothing I can't handle." Webster was one of two firefighters injured in the flames. The other first responder was also treated for minor burns at the hospital, a write-up noted. The Prince George's County Fire/EMS Department said that crew member was released a few hours after the blaze. A full report on the fire is available here. "[Webster] was extremely excited to see us when we got to the hospital," Bladensburg Chief Dave Sumner said. "We're happy to have him back home." We are extremely happy to report our #PGFD @BladensburgVFD Firefighter Evan Webster who was seriously injured at a house fire, a week ago, was released from the hospital today. He's in great spirits.
