Description
Millions of Ahmadi Muslims across the globe unite on February 20th to commemorate a miracle of Islam. After spending 40 days in Hoshiarpur, India secluded, fasting, and praying for a sign like earlier Prophets, Messiah Hazrat Mirza Ghulam Ahmad, peace be upon him, published a powerful revelation announcing the prophecy of a Promised Son imbibing 52 illustrious traits. "God the Merciful, the Noble, the High, the Exalted, Who has power to do all that He wills (glory be to Him and exalted be His name), has vouchsafed to me the following revelation:"I confer upon thee a Sign of My mercy according to thy supplications. I have heard thy entreaties and have honored thy prayers with My acceptance through My mercy and have blessed this thy journey. A sign of power, mercy, nearness to Me is bestowed on thee. A Sign of grace and beneficence is awarded to thee and thou art granted the key of success and victory. Peace on thee, O victorious one. Thus does God speak so that those who desire life may be rescued from the grip of death and those who are buried in the graves may emerge therefrom and so that the superiority of Islam and the dignity of God's word may become manifest unto the people and so that the truth may arrive with all its blessings and falsehood may depart with all its ills, and so that people may understand that I am the Lord of Power, I do whatever I will, and so that they may believe that I am with thee, and so that those who do not believe in God and deny and reject His religion and His Book and His Holy Messenger Muhammad, the chosen one (on whom be peace) may be confronted with a clear sign and the way of the guilty ones may become manifest.Rejoice, therefore, that a handsome and pure boy will be bestowed on thee. Thou wilt receive a bright youth who will be of thy seed and will be of thy progeny. A handsome and pure boy will come as your guest. His name is Emmanuel and Bashir. He has been invested with a holy spirit and he will be free from all impurity. He is the light of Allah. Blessed is he who comes from heaven. He shall be accompanied by grace فضل which shall arrive with him. He will be characterized with grandeur, greatness and wealth. He will come into the world and will heal many of their disorder through his Messianic qualities and through the blessings of the Holy Spirit. He is the Word of Allah for Allah's mercy and honor have equipped him with the Word of Majesty. He will be extremely intelligent and understanding and will be meek of heart and will be filled with secular and spiritual knowledge. He will convert three into four (of this the meaning is not clear). It is Monday, a blessed Monday. Son, delight of heart, high ranking, noble; a manifestation of the First and the Last, a manifestation of the True and the High; as if Allah has descended from heaven. His advent will be greatly blessed and will be a source of manifestation of Divine Majesty. Behold! a light cometh, a light anointed by God with the perfume of His pleasure. We shall pour our spirit into him and he will be sheltered under the shadow of God. He will grow rapidly in stature and will be the means of procuring the release of those held in bondage. His fame will spread to the ends of the earth and peoples will be blessed through him. He will then be raised to his spiritual station in heaven. This is a matter decreed." Excerpt from The Green Announcement of 20th February, 1886. Such glad tidings are evocative of Prophets Ishmael son of Abraham, John son of Zechariah, and Jesus son of Mary, peace be upon them. It was in reality the Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, who predicted "when the Son of Mary descends on earth, he would marry and have children" Sahih Muslim. Messiah Ahmad's wife Hazrat Nusrat Jehan Begum, Allah is pleased with her, first gave birth to a girl Ismat and then a boy Bashir both of whom passed away young. Critics mocked, but it was short lived. In 1889, months before Messiah Ahmad founded the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Hazrat Mirza Bashiruddin Mahmud Ahmad, Bashir II, Allah is pleased with him, was born. Although unable to attend secondary school, he yet wrote enlightening articles harmonizing science and religion, and dominated deep theological debates with scholars of diverse disciplines as a teenager. He performed Hajj pilgrimage and started newspapers like Al Fazl in his twenties. On the demise of Messiah Ahmad's first Caliph, Nuruddin, Allah is pleased with him, Bashir II was elected to the sacred office of the Messiah's Second Caliph at the young age of 25. Some elders assumed he was too inexperienced for the weighty position and in their arrogance split into the Lahore Movement. God had already decreed to the Second Caliph "I will exalt those who follow thee above those who disbelieve, until Judgement Day". His miraculous work spanning half a century as Caliph was beheld in awe by all. His leadership established 46 foreign missions, initiated several enriching charities restoring economic justice from grassroots, built Mosques, Hospitals, and Schools empowering the underserved in remote villages of Asia and Africa, launched national conventions on the resurrecting life of Holy Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, alongside inter-religious leaders, and, for the first time in history, translated the Qur'an into scores of diverse languages. Caliph Bashir II organized and structured various departments in the Community including youth associations and Women's Auxiliary, in the 1920's, furnished with their own elected female President. He emphasized "nations cannot be reformed without the reformation of their youth". It was under his expansive direction amid what is now Black History Month 101 years ago that America met its first Muslim Missionary, Hazrat Mufti Muhammad Saddiq, Allah is pleased with him, who inaugurated America's oldest and largest Islamic Organization, launched its oldest and longest running Muslim Publication, Muslim Sunrise, opened its earliest Mosques, and started its oldest and largest Islamic annual convention, Jalsa Salana. All achieved with African American pioneering giants who were our earliest Imams, callers to prayers, and Chapter Presidents leading and living equitably with Asians, Whites, fellow Blacks, and Latinos when segregation based on color was society's norm. Such race relations enshrined by Caliph Bashir II predated and influenced the civil rights movement.Caliph Bashir II became a pivotal political figure in pre-independence India. He travelled extensively making newspaper headlines and fulfilling a victorious prediction at the gate of Lud, London. In 1931, Caliph Bashir was elected president of the All India Kashmir Committee defending civil rights, promoting education, and alleviating oppression. He assembled and dispatched the Furqan Force; a battalion for the freedom of Kashmir where also the sacred body of Messiah Jesus, peace be upon him, dwells in Rozabal, Srinagar. It wasn't until 1944 that Caliph Bashir announced himself as the Promised Son after repeated Divine instructions. My great grandfather Hazrat Hakeem Marham Isa, Allah is pleased with him, accompanied him throughout his blessed journeys. The Promised Son also announced that others like him would emerge in the future as Almighty Allah wills. He was instrumental in winning Pakistan's independence, and built the town of Rabwah on an arid tract of land transforming it into a lush green garden and new headquarters for the now international Ahmadiyya Muslim Community. The Promised Son valiantly steered the Community through the 1953 riots against Ahmadis, mass martyrdoms, and an assassination attempt on his own life by an assailant who wounded but couldn't kill him. He continued to fight back darkness with light penning scores of world renowned works including Life of Muhammad, Muhammad in the Bible, New World Order, Did Jesus Redeem Mankind, and Introduction to the study of the Quran. The most ground-breaking was the awakening 5-10 volume Extensive Exegesis and Short Commentary of the Holy Qur'an which he was taught as a youth by an Angel of God.He was called back to Allah and his lofty heavenly station in 1965. His sons Hazrat Mirza Nasir Ahmad and Hazrat Mirza Tahir Ahmad, Allah's mercy is upon them, became the third and fourth Caliphs of Messiah Ahmad. Today the Promised Reformer's grandson Hazrat Mirza Masroor Ahmad, Allah strengthen him, serves as the Fifth elected Caliph of Messiah Ahmad reflecting his grandfather's and great grandfather's inextinguishable lights. Like his counterpart Hazrat Umar Faruq, Allah is pleased with him, Second Caliph of Prophet Muhammad, peace and blessings be upon him, Caliph Bashir's fruits still nourish and uplift us to the Divine Presence here and hereafter.
