ANNAPOLIS, MD — Annapolis Mayor Gavin Buckley swore in Stan Brandford as deputy police chief on Tuesday. The new second in command has served as acting deputy police chief since Major Paul Herman retired from the post in January. "We are fortunate to be able to bring this talent to our City and to the Annapolis Police Department," Buckley said in a press release. Brandford retired from the Baltimore Police Department in 2018 as a colonel. He led the city's homicide unit as chief of detectives. Brandford then joined the Annapolis team in January 2020 and has served in a civilian role ever since. "It's a good day for the Annapolis Police Department," Police Chief Edward Jackson said in the release. "And that will mean a good future for the residents of our City." Along with Buckley and Jackson, Brandford's immediate family attended the socially-distanced event in the City Council chambers. "I look forward to the work," Brandford said in the write-up.
