PRINCETON, NJ – Princeton is inviting residents to volunteer in the township's Cannabis Task Force. Princeton recently announced its plans to set up a task force, after New Jersey said they were close to a possible deal on legalizing marijuana in the state. The task force will be include councilwoman Eve Niedergang, councilwoman Leticia Fraga and councilwoman Michelle Pirone Lambros. Volunteers will serve on a six- to eight-month task force to explore the impact of the legalization of cannabis in the township and state. The task force will primarily serve in an advisory capacity to provide input to the mayor and council on three major areas of concern: Should Princeton enable a cannabis dispensary to open in town and, if so, should tax revenue from the dispensary be dedicated to a specific use. How will educational efforts about cannabis change for under 21 year olds, adults and seniors. How can Princeton best affirm its commitment to social and restorative justice in terms of cannabis policing and enforcement. New Jersey voters already approved a constitutional amendment to legalize marijuana, which went into effect on Jan. 1. In the November election, Mercer County voted overwhelmingly in favor of legalizing recreational marijuana.
