San Diego County COVID-19 Cases Rise By 810, With 36 More Deaths

By Editor, Times of San Diego February 19, 2021 San Diego County public health officials reported 810 new COVID-19 infections Thursday and 36 additional deaths from the disease. It's the seventh consecutive day with the number of new cases falling below 1,000 and the 10th in the past 11 days to fall beneath that metric. Of 19,845 tests reported Thursday, 4% came back positive, bringing the 14-day rolling average of positive tests to 5.2%. The county's seven-day rate for COVID-19 positives also is 5.2%, placing the region in the red portion of the four-tiered state re-opening plan. With Thursday's numbers, the total local COVID-19 infections rose to 254,990 since the pandemic began, while the death toll increased to 3,135. Officials reported six new community outbreaks Thursday, for a total of 33 in the past week, connected to 136 COVID-19 cases. The number of hospitalizations fell from 804 to 772 Thursday, while intensive care patients dropped to 245. There are 55 staffed ICU beds available locally, an increase of 22 beds since the weekend. Of 765,500 vaccines the county has received, 684,278 have been administered, as officials continue to wait for more doses to arrive after intense winter storms halted shipments throughout the country. Overall, 159,161 people, or 5.5% of county residents, now are fully vaccinated.
