EAST GREENWICH, RI — The East Greenwich Fire Department has received a $187,333 grant from the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to fund new breathing equipment for firefighters. Sen. Jack Reed, who the department said was "instrumental" in helping them receive the grant, visited Station One on Thursday to see the new federally-funded equipment. The grant, which was written by Fire Chief Bernie Patenaude, allowed the department to acquire 25 Scott air packs, 50 Scott air cylinders, 39 Scott masks, one Rapid Intervention Team pack, one pack tracker, and a mask fit test machine. "We would like to thank Senator Reed and Chief Patenaude for their efforts in obtaining this grant," said the department in a Twitter post Thursday. More information about FEMA and how to apply for an emergency management grant can be found on the agency's website.
