PITTSBURGH, PA — WTAE-TV weekend meteorologist Cam Tran is leaving the station to join Hearst sister station WESH-TV in Orlando, FL.
"Cam brings a strong sense of purpose and a wealth of experience covering all types of severe weather," WESH news director Kirsten Wolff said in a news release. "She will be a great addition to our First Alert Weather Team."
Said Tran: "My goal is and will always be to keep people safe from any potentially dangerous weather. I look forward to bringing my experience to the WESH 2 First Alert Weather team."
Before coming to WTAE, Tran was a national evening forecaster for the State College-based AccuWeather Network and contributed weather reports to ABC News and Fox Business news. Before that, she was a morning meteorolgist in Honolulu.
Tran has a journalism degree from the University of Texas and a broadcast meteorology certificate from Mississippi State University.
Tran's departure from the 5 a.m.-7 a.m. and 8 a.m.-10 a.m. weekend shift could open the door for former KDKA chief meteorologist Jeff Verszyla to work more consistently for the station. Verszyla, who worked for KDKA for 23 years before his abrupt dismissal in December 2018, has been doing fill-in forecasting work at WTAE since September.
