PHILADELPHIA — A major two-day vaccination initiative is taking place in Philadelphia this weekend thanks to the Black Doctors COVID-19 Consortium. The group is planning to provide vaccine doses for certain Philadelphia residents at a 24-hour clinic. Residents in Philadelphia neighborhoods and ZIP codes with the highest incidence of coronavirus cases and deaths and who meet the Phase 1B vaccination criteria are eligible to be vaccinated. Phase 1B includes frontline workers at high risk for exposure who perform essential duties, persons working and residing in congregate settings, persons 75 years and older, and persons with these high-risk medical conditions: cancer; chronic kidney disease; chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD); heart conditions, such as heart failure, coronary artery disease, or cardiomyopathies; immunocompromised state (weakened immune system) from solid organ transplant; obesity (body mass index [BMI] ≥30 kg/m2 but <40 kg/m2); severe obesity (BMI ≥40 kg/m2); sickle cell disease; smoking; types 1 and 2 diabetes mellitus; Down Syndrome; pregnancy. The clinic is being held from noon Friday to noon Saturday at the Liacouras Center, 1776 N.
