For immediate release: February 18, 2021
There will be temporary, intermittent street closures in Center City to accommodate a helicopter lift of heavy equipment on Saturday, February 20, Streets Commissioner Carlton Williams announced today. The streets will not be completely closed the entire duration, but delays should be expected as heavy equipment is carried overhead by the helicopter. The following streets will be impacted:
On Street From Street To Street Time:
Market St. 23rd St 30th St. 12am – 6am
Market St. 23rd St S Schuylkill Ave. 6am – 6pm
23rd Arch St. Market St. 6am – 6pm
N Schuylkill Ave. JFK Blvd. Market St. 6am – 6pm
S Schuylkill Ave. Market St. Chestnut St. 6am – 6pm
Adjacent cross streets will also be closed intermittently during this time. The street closures will allow for the safe delivery of the heavy equipment and are a standard safety precaution. Due to the height of these buildings a helicopter is needed to set these units. For safety reasons and because of the nature of the work to be performed, the streets will be closed to vehicular and pedestrian traffic.
The lift has been scheduled for the weekend to minimize disruption to residents and businesses. Police assistance will be on hand to ensure the safety of motorists, pedestrians, and work crews for the duration of all closures. Access for emergency vehicles will be maintained.
