ELMHURST, IL — In the last few days, Elmhurst police have handled cases involving threats, drugs at a business, a suspicious incident, gift card scams, a burglary and harassment. Here is information from the latest Elmhurst police reports: Threats A resident in an apartment complex in the 100 block of East Lake Street said a neighbor threatened to harm her dog after it ran out of her apartment and into the parking lot at 2 p.m. Wednesday. The suspect said her statements were taken out of context and did not intend on deliberately harming the dog. The officer spoke with the manager of the complex, who stated he would handle the matter and that no police action was needed. A person in the 300 block of West Avery Street told police Tuesday about receiving a threatening voice message from a suspect. The officer spoke with the suspect, who said he made the comments out of frustration and did not intend to hurt the victim. The victim did not wish to sign a complaint, but wanted the matter documented. Drugs at business An employee at Idexx Laboratories, 655 W. Grand Ave., found a Mason jar containing small bags of marijuana Tuesday. An officer took possession of the bags and placed them into evidence for destruction. Suspicious A woman informed police that her 7-year-old son told her that a teenage girl gave him and friend $15 after they pet her dog at 3 p.m. Wednesday near Vallette Street and Berkley Avenue. The girl then left on foot with her dog. The woman said she has no suspect information and just wanted the matter documented. Gift card scams A resident in the 900 block of South Stratford Avenue told police Tuesday that she contacted someone purporting to be working for PayPal. The unknown suspect requested she purchase gift cards and allow him remote access to her phone. He was able to persuade the woman to transfer money to an email address. A resident in the 800 block of South Bryan Street told police she received an email Tuesday regarding an unknown purchase on her Amazon account. The victim contacted the phone number provided on the email and spoke with an unknown suspect posing as an Amazon employee. The unknown suspect persuaded the victim to buy gift cards. The victim provided the scammer with the card numbers. The victim later realized it was a scam. Burglary A residence in the 200 block of North Addison Avenue was burglarized about 7:30 p.m. Tuesday. Officers responded to a burglar alarm and discovered the front door of the residence had been forcefully opened. An officer notified the homeowner. The case is pending an investigation. Harassment A person in the 100 block of Haven Road told police that someone continued to harass her with telephone calls from Saturday to Wednesday. The suspect threatened to contact the victim's place of employment and family. An officer tried to call the suspect but was unsuccessful. The investigation continues. Damage A car in the 500 block of West Crockett Avenue was scratched several times on the passenger side Tuesday. The owner had no suspect information, but would sign a complaint if the suspect was found.
