ABOUT EVERGLADES: The Everglades has been around for 5,000 years and cover over 1.5 million acres less than 50% are protected. The Everglades is a giant, slow-moving river that is a combination of fresh, brackish, and salt waters and a refuge for such a wide variety of wildlife. Remember, when you visit national parks, you are entering animals’ habitat and should behave like a polite guest. We want you to be our guest time and time again, so please reflect on the safety and health of wildlife before making any choices that would make the opossums nervous! In general, if animals react to your presence, you are too close. If you’re close enough for a selfie, you’re definitely too close. Use binoculars or a zoom lens and move back if wildlife approaches you. Let wildlife be wild and never (seriously never, ever) feed wildlife.
