SHAKER HEIGHTS, OH — Students in the Shaker Heights Schools will choose between in-person and online learning in the fourth quarter of the academic year. The fourth quarter begins March 22. "Our goal for the fourth quarter is to ensure that all students who wish to be onsite are able to do so, while maintaining the current onsite learning schedule," Superintendent David Glasner said in a letter to the community. Families will soon receive an online form about what form of education they prefer for their students, in-person or online. The form will guide the district's decisions for onsite students. More than 800 Shaker Heights teachers and staff recently received the first part of the COVID-19 vaccine. District employees will receive the second shot on March 9. However, the COVID-19 vaccine can take weeks to become full effective and Glasner encouraged the community to continue wearing masks and following social distancing guidelines. Anyone who comes into contact with someone who has COVID, or begins showing symptoms of the virus, should not go into school. "Your efforts and vigilance inside school and in the overall community enable us to continue onsite learning at all grade levels," Glasner said.
