TUSCALOOSA, AL — Investigators with the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit say a 13 year old was shot and killed Thursday night in the 300 block of James I Harrison Jr. Parkway and the investigation remains ongoing.
Captain Marty Sellers told local media that police contacted the multi-agency unit at approximately 11:15 p.m. Thursday night in reference to a shooting and while investigators were on scene, two teenagers reportedly made contact with police and identified themselves as being involved in the shooting, claiming self defense. Investigators also recovered a handgun from the scene.
Sellers said both were taken into custody, interviewed and released, but have remained in close contact with investigators. He declined to provided further details as the case remains under active investigation.
As of the publication of this story, no charges had been filed in connection to the fatal shooting, which marks the first homicide investigation for Tuscaloosa County in 2021.
