The Utah Black History Museum Grand Opening- When choosing your tickets please use this guide "Black Lives Matter Kids" these tickets for for active members of Black Lives Matter who have children "Volunteers" These tickets are for volunteers who helped to renovate the bus, fix the bus, design the bus, help with materials and cataloging, and planning of the event. "Nonprofits and Activists" These tickets are for people who run non-profits, or people who are activists in our community. "General Public" these tickets are for members of the general public. We tried to stagger the tickets due to Covid. This project took two years to complete Phase One. Phase One is our mobile museum. We wanted to be able to bring Black history to students across Utah. We are excited to share pieces of Utah's Black History. Phase Two will be our brick-and-mortar museum. Come get a taste of what we have built so far. While you are at the museum, please make sure that you visit the "Sorting Out Race" exhibit inside of the Leonardo. This exhibit was created by the Black Chamber of Commerce. Description: "Every day thrift stores across America receive donations of objects that display racial imagery— antique advertising cards, collectible salt-and-pepper shakers, vintage children’s books, and mugs with sports team mascots. Are these objects harmless reminders of historical attitudes or do they continue to perpetuate negative stereotypes about race? Should thrift stores sell these objects? Or should they be “sorted out” of the resale environment and discarded?
