STAMFORD, CT — A Stamford man has been charged with criminal attempt at murder in connection to a shooting that occurred on the West Side of the city last year on Election Day. Capt. Richard Conklin said Brandon Turner, 26, was walking in the area of Stillwater Avenue around 11:30 a.m. on Nov. 3 and encountered someone he knew. According to Conklin, the two exchanged "some words" and got into a disagreement. Turner then pulled out a pistol and shot a number of rounds at the other person, who ran off and was not struck, Conklin said. "We were very lucky that day because...this was a relatively nice day, and there was a lot of people out on the street," Conklin said. "There were people making deliveries to businesses nearby, and we're lucky that nobody was hit by these gun shells." While investigating the incident, officers recovered at least four shell casings from the area, Conklin said. (To sign up for Stamford breaking news alerts and more, click here.) After investigating the incident further and reviewing video surveillance footage from the area, officers from the department's Major Crimes Unit obtained an arrest warrant for Turner last week, Conklin said. Turner, who had a number of court dates already set for unrelated incidents, turned himself into police early Tuesday morning, according to Conklin. "The [Major Crimes Unit] did a very concise and complete job on this," Conklin said, "which resulted in this warrant." He was charged with criminal attempt at murder, criminal possession of a firearm, unlawful discharge of a firearm and first-degree reckless endangerment.
