Description
PITTSBURGH, PA — A trio of Pittsburgh police officers recently came to the rescue of a pit pull stuck on a second-floor balcony of a North Side apartment during one of the past week's frequent snowstorms.
According to the Pittsburgh Public Safety Department Facebook page, the Zone 1 officers went to the dog owner's residence when a concerned neighbor reported the dog trapped on the balcony in near-freezing temperatures and heavy snow. The canine's owner was babysitting later than expected and was unable to leave to let the dog back into the apartment.
Officers Alex Dickant and James Hauser found the dog wet, cold and shaking but were unable to reach it from the outside. They notified Lt. Richard Ford, who arrived and called the Pittsburgh Bureau of EMS Rescue 2 to access the apartment.
Once inside, the dog went directly to its food. According to the public safety department owner, its owner - who wanted to remain anonymous - was grateful for the rescue effort.
The public safety department is using the incident as a reminder it's illegal in Pittsburgh to leave pets outside longer than 30 minutes unsupervised when the temperature is 32 degrees or below.
