Cathedral High School (CHS), an all-girls Catholic College Preparatory school in the heart of Manhattan, held its first virtual career day for seniors because of the pandemic. Featured speakers included notable alumnae India Sneed ‘04 and Debra De Jesus-Vizzi, MSW, LCSW ’81. Both spoke candidly about the highs and lows of their career paths, perseverance in reaching their goals, importance of networking and how attending Cathedral High School prepared them for their future careers. Students participated in the hour-long interactive session that concluded with a spirited Q&A. For more than two decades, CHS has been providing Career Day events, the brainchild of Ms. Marguerite Kiely, Director of the Business/Law Academy, to its students. This year's event, being the first done virtually, was well received by the student body and provided our presenters the rare opportunity to engage one on one with our students and staff. Kiely remarked, “India and Debra made the Career Day such a memorable event by being inspirational, honest, and transparent. The women demonstrated traits of perseverance, integrity, and courage. The seniors were impressed by their astonishing accomplishments of their fellow Cathedralites.” Ms. Sneed is an associate at Greenberg Traurig. She has a diverse background including trial practice, election law practice, minority and women business enterprises certification guidance policy and legislation development, government relations, and community engagement. Ms. Vizzi is currently the executive Director of the Student Sponsor Partners, an organization that impacted her by providing the opportunity to attend Cathedral High School and have a supportive mentor. She has dedicated her life and work to helping those in need. A thought leader and changemaker for child welfare, education, and poverty, her passion and drive come from her personal experience as a foster child in New York City and the capable adults who changed the trajectory of her life in much the same way she aims to support vulnerable youth today. She is also a member of the newly created Principal’s Council at Cathedral. Cathedral High School is located at 350 East 56th Street in Manhattan.
