19-40 hours per week The primary function of an employee in this class is to perform unskilled manual labor. Some duties, once learned, can be performed under general supervision. Positions may be temporary or seasonal. An employee in this class may be assigned to other duties in other City departments. Essential Functions: Essential Functions are not intended to be an exhaustive list of all responsibilities, duties and skills. Employees are responsible for all other duties as assigned. • Loads and unloads trucks of dirt, plant cuttings, refuse and trash; • Digs and backfills trenches and ditches; • Performs general grounds maintenance, including mowing, trimming, weeding, pruning, and cultivation; • Prepares and maintains gardens, trees and shrubs, playgrounds, and other planting areas; • Sweeps, cleans, and picks up litter in public areas such as walkways and streets and gutters; • Performs general custodial and maintenance tasks as directed by a supervisor; • Assists in removal and replacement of concrete and asphalt; • Performs all work duties and activities in accordance with City policies and procedures; • Works in a safe manner and reports unsafe activity and conditions. Follows City-wide safety policy and practices and adheres to responsibilities concerning safety prevention, reporting and monitoring as outlined in the City's Safety Handbook. Essential Physical Abilities: • Sufficient clarity of hearing, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to discern verbal instructions and emergency and warning systems, including backup alarms; • Sufficient visual acuity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to comprehend written work instructions and operate in a physical work environment; • Sufficient manual dexterity, with or without reasonable accommodation, which permits the employee to operate a variety of power and hand tools and to make adjustments to equipment; • Sufficient strength to lift objects up to 90 pounds, push or pull objects up to 300 pounds, and to carry objects up to 90 pounds for varying distances; • Sufficient body flexibility, stamina, and balance to perform maintenance and custodial operations requiring bending, stooping, twisting, reaching, kneeling, and climbing and working on ladders and stairs, and standing for extended time periods. Minimum Qualifications: • Valid Arizona Driver's License with an acceptable driving record; or • Any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge and abilities necessary to perform the work; Desired Qualifications: • High school diploma or GED equivalency; • Recent grounds maintenance and facility cleaning experience The position available is a part-time temporary position that will serve at the discretion of the department head.
