How to Spot Pet Scams

Description

Please be a smart consumer when looking for pets on CL! The scams are everywhere! Do not try to buy animals from ads that look shady. How to tell: -Photos of pets look like they could have been taken off of google. -The listing is for one animal, but the description is about a different one. (ex. Selling one pure breed beagle puppy. This cat is so adorable.) -The seller has multiple ads for multiple different breeds at the same time -The seller's phone number or email address is spelled out funny (ex. D0nna (a) g ml DOT cm) -The word "cage" or "bird cage" is in the title of the listing in addition to the type of puppy Of course, always be suspicious of the seller who won't provide medical or shot records of the puppies. Puppies MUST be at least 8 weeks old before separated from their mother, even if no longer nursing. If the puppy is truly AKC registered, it should have paperwork. A trustworthy breeder should let you see their home where the puppies have been raised, AND allow you to meet the puppy's parents. DO NOT pay any money before you see the puppy. **When in doubt, adoption is the way to go! There are thousands of homeless dogs and puppies in shelters and rescues this very moment!
