Description
Join our winter event, Reher Roll Revival, to remember Sunday morning bakery pick-ups and community gatherings, in town and through Zoom! On Sunday mornings from the 1940s through the 1970s, Kingstonians from the German, Irish, Italian, and Polish communities converged at Reher's Bakery to pick up rolls for breakfast on their way home from church. On Sunday morning, March 14th, Kingston neighbors will once again be invited to the bakery to gather fresh rolls for the family. Registrants to Reher Roll Revival will choose a time slot between 11am-1pm to pick-up rolls donated by local bakeries from tents stationed outside Reher Center. This morning event is being organized by the Reher Center in collaboration with local cultural organizations representing the former customers’ backgrounds. The Ulster County Italian-American Foundation is taking a lead organizing role, and the Ancient Order of Hibernians’s Pipe and Drum Band will come to play in front of Reher’s Bakery on what would have been the St. Patrick’s Day Parade. From 3-4pm on Zoom, JT Pinna, the baker at Half Moon Rondout Cafe, will moderate the afternoon taste-test panel, which will be composed of former bakery customers from the German-, Irish-, and African-American communities. The $25 ticket fee will support both the Reher Center's Grow our Gallery, Build our Bathroom campaign and the work of People's Place to fight food insecurity in our community today. Tickets will provide you access to the Zoom link and a bag of six locally baked rolls. Select Rondout restaurants will also be giving a lunch discount with proof of ticket. Reminder: All NYS and County Gathering Guidelines will be followed for your safety. When you register, you will be directed to another website to sign up for a pick-up time slot, a delivery option, or if you would simply like to attend the Zoom and donate a larger portion of your ticket to People's Place. Our bakery and restaurant sponsors include: Adam's, Boice Bros. Dairy, Bread by Ellen, Cake Box Bakery, Graziano's Downtown Cafe, Half Moon Rondout Cafe, Meredith's Breads, and The Bakery New Paltz
