WAYLAND, MA — A new Wayland committee that oversees race and justice issues in town will host its first "community conversations" event this month to commemorate Black History Month.
The Feb. 28 event organized by the Wayland Racial Justice Advisory Committee will feature resident Russell Ashton speaking about Black History Month. Wayland police officer DaLonn Pearson will also talk about his journey to becoming the town's second ever Black police officer.
The free event will be held online via Zoom. The registration period opens on Wednesday on the Wayland Recreation Department website.
The eight-member Wayland Racial Justice Advisory Committee was formed over the summer following nationwide unrest over police violence.
