HOWARD COUNTY, MD — Students are being sought to apply for a position on Howard County's recreation and parks advisory board. Comprised of eight members, including one student, the board provides recommendations relating to plans, policies and programs for public recreation and reviews plans for and holds hearings on the acquisition and development of land for public recreation and open space. The student board member would serve a one-year term from July 1, 2021, to June 30, 2022. "Our young residents are some of our most active in our community, participating in our recreation programs and visiting our parks daily," Howard County Executive Calvin Ball said. "This is a wonderful opportunity for a Howard County student to have a voice and share their important perspective for the betterment of our community." To be eligible for consideration, candidates must be a Howard County resident, enrolled in high school for the 2021-2022 academic year, have an interest in public recreation and be able to attend the board's meetings, which are held the third Wednesday of each month from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. in conference room #1 at the department of recreation and parks headquarters, 7120 Oakland Mills Road, Columbia. Due to the coronavirus pandemic, board meetings are currently taking place virtually. Applicants should send a resume and a brief letter explaining why they want to serve on the board to Kimberly Pruim either by email to [email protected] or by mail to: Howard County Government, Office of the County Executive, Attn: Kimberly Pruim, 3430 Court House Drive, Ellicott City, MD 21043. The names of eligible applicants will be submitted to the county executive for approval and the nominee will be submitted to the County Council for confirmation. The deadline to apply is March 19.
