DANBURY, CT — The owner of a Danbury of a Danbury vape and tobacco shop has been accused of selling his products to an underage customer, police are reporting.
Saed Alkasaji, owner of the Cloud House at 60 Newtown Road, received violations for three separate sales of electronic cigarettes to customers under the age of 21. The charges were the result of a compliance check sweep conducted by the Danbury Police Department using underage cadet volunteers on Friday.
"It should be known that this compliance check was in response to countless complaints reported concerning blatant sales of tobacco/vape products being sold to persons under the age of 21," Det. Lt. Mark Williams said.
The Cloud House was the shop "most complained about," according to Williams.
The other five locations involved in the sweep and which passed their tests are: Danbury Smoke Shop, 128 Federal Road; Resistance Vapor & Smoke Shop, 12 Mill Plain Road; Twilight Vapor & CBD Shop, 10 Hayestown Avenue; The Smoking Samurai, 35 White Street; and Buttheads Tobacco Emporium, 5 Padanaram Road.
Williams said the Cloud House made two independent sales to cadet volunteers and one to a 17-year-old, which investigators witnessed when entering the shop to take enforcement action for the earlier sales. Alkasaji was charged with three counts of selling electronic cigarettes to minors.
"It should be noted, during the time investigators were taking enforcement action against the owner of Cloud House, at least five persons under the age of 21 entered the shop in an attempt to make purchases," Williams said.
