PHILADELPHIA — Members of the Philadelphia school community are now invited to get coronavirus vaccines through Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. Starting Wednesday, CHOP is inviting the first cohort of approximately 10,000 people to make vaccine appointments. Once an invitation has been received, school employees can choose to make an appointment at one of seven locations across the city. Following the first cohort of invitations, more will roll out in phases to three additional groups. "We are thankful for CHOP and PDPH for their support in this vaccination program, as this will provide an additional layer of safety to the measures already put in place like social distancing, wearing a mask and regular hand sanitizing and washing," said School District of Philadelphia Superintendent William R. Hite, Jr., Ed.D. "We hope that when our employees receive their appointment invitations, they will choose to get vaccinated as another layer of safety for themselves, their families, the students and their colleagues." As another layer of safety, the School District of Philadelphia also created an in-school student coronavirus testing strategy, where school nurses will test both students without symptoms (asymptomatic testing) and students with symptoms consistent with COVID-19 (symptomatic testing). For more information on the testing program, visit the Website for In-School COVID Testing for Students.
