Description
LOS GATOS, CA – One of this South Bay city's newest and most interesting businesses is equal parts Leonardo da Vinci and Willie Wonka.
Deux Cranes, which opened last week in Los Gatos at 15531 Union Ave., offers artisanal chocolate and confections inspired by the food cultures of Japan and France.
It's probably not where you'd go if you're looking for a Hershey bar.
The upscale confection paradise's offerings include matcha white chocolate, passionfruit chocolate, and dark chocolate with miso roasted almonds.
"…my dream is to connect people through my art—which is chocolate and other treats, Deux Cranes owner and head chocolatier Michiko Marron-Kibbey wrote on her website.
Marron-Kibbey, a fourth-generation Japanese-American who has traveled the world and has studied pastry and chocolate in Paris, aims to bring her multi-cultural experience to her art.
"There are so many people in America who are multi-cultural and have fascinating, rich backgrounds. This is what makes America unique and beautiful," Marron-Kibbey wrote.
"Since being back home from a year studying pastry and chocolate in Paris, I've realized that that richness isn't represented in the chocolates and confections marketplace. Deux Cranes strives to fill that space where multiculturalism meets sweets and make chocolates and confections that appeal to people from all kinds of places and stories."
