IREDELL COUNTY, NC — Two juvenile males face charges including assault and weapons on campus after a girl was shot with a pellet gun on a school bus on the way to Third Creek Elementary School in Statesville Tuesday. The girl told the school bus driver "she thought she had been shot by a pellet gun," as the bus pulled into the elementary school campus, Iredell County Sheriff's Office said in a statement. The bus driver alerted a school resource officer, who conducted an investigation into the incident along with school officials. The girl and two boys were interviewed about the incident and the pellet gun was located, ICSO said. "As a result of the School Resource Officer's investigation, the two male juveniles will be charged with misdemeanor weapons on campus or other educational property, and misdemeanor assault," ICSO said. "These charges will be forwarded to Juvenile Services." The incident underscores how quickly and easily weapons of any kind can end up in an elementary school, Sheriff Darren Campbell said in a statement. "Fortunately, the response time of our SRO was mere seconds," he said. SEE ALSO: Winter Storm Watch Issued For Iredell County: ForecastNCGOP Censures Sen.
