Code Enforcement Officer Water Management; Utility Engineering Division; Cross Connection Control B22: $39,799.50 – 43,036.50 The Department of Water Management is seeking an energetic and well organized individual for the role of Code Enforcement Officer I. Please note that this position is not an inspectors position. This key position supports the Cross Connection Control (CCC) Group which administers a backflow preventer program in order to protect the public water supply from residential and non-residential cross connections. Currently, there are over 15,000 known backflow preventers in Durham. Due to the growth and redevelopment of the City’s water service area, the CCC group is also charged with inspecting and maintaining annual testing requirements on an increasing number of new backflows (over 700 each year since 2011). There are also unknown cross connections that this position would help identify and assist in bringing into compliance. This is a fast-paced environment that involves interaction with contractors, business owners, and the public. In addition to strong organizational skills, the successful candidate will be proficient in Word, Excel, SharePoint Platform to manage internal and external web postings, assist the Inspectors, and entering data into the LDO database system and the Cross Connection database electronic portal. Duties include, but are not limited to, investigating for non-compliance, documenting violations, issuing Water Termination Letters, performing lock/unlock of water meters, and responding to technical issues of licensing, permitting, or CCC-related City ordinances and state laws. Requirements: • High School Diploma or GED • Minimum 3 year of related experience • Valid Class “C” driver’s license, or must obtain within 60 days of hire.
