WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington School Committee Member Steve Bjork resigned at the end of the committee's most recent meeting, leaving the Board of Selectmen with a decision: how should his seat be filled?
"My personal and professional life at this time have made it impossible for me to fulfill all my responsibilities," Bjork said in a resignation letter read at the Feb. 10 meeting of the School Committee.
Bjork, who sat on the committee for seven years, resigned effective immediately, as first reported by the Wilmington Apple.
The resignation leaves town officials with a dilemma, as nomination papers for the April 24 town election will be available until March 5. Town officials are discussing either adding the newly vacant seat to the ballot for that election, for a two-year term, or having the School Committee and selectmen appoint a replacement to fill the seat until the 2022 town election.
The Board of Selectmen are holding a special meeting Wednesday to consider the two options.
The full School Committee meeting is available here, from WCTV.
