The Reading School Committee voted 5-1 to nominate Milaschewski. Members in favor were enthusiastic about his nomination, citing the praise he received in Medford and the level of energy and leadership they expect him to bring to the role.
"With the site visit for Tom, you could feel the passion from the people that had worked with him in detail," School Committee member Thomas Wise said.
Reading School Committee Chair Charles Robinson called Milaschewski Thursday to officially offer him the job. Robinson said Milaschewski was "very thankful and excited to accept the position."
Milaschewski is a former high school math teacher in the North Shore Regional Vocational School District and elementary school principal in Salem. He is an adjunct professor at Salem State University, Gordon College and Endicott College, as well as a district consultant for the Harvard Graduate School of Education.
