Description

We invite you to join us for an in-person hybrid Tenebrae Service in our historic sanctuary. “Tenebrae” is the Latin word meaning “darkness.” This service involves the segmented reading of John’s story of the trial, sentencing, execution, death, and burial of Jesus. After each segment of the story is read, a candle is extinguished. After the fifteenth reading, which confirms that Jesus had died on the cross, the last of the 15 lit candles will be extinguished or taken away, and a loud sound will be made to indicate the effect of the death of Jesus on the universe. The final story of the burial is read in near darkness, with the only light being used by the reader. Worshipers will reflect and leave in silence to ponder the impact of Christ’s death and await the celebration of the coming Resurrection.Seating is assigned and limited, so register today if you'd like to attend! This service will be a hybrid service, meaning in-person and livestreamed. If you're interested in attending in-person, we encourage you to read our policies on what you can expect at upcoming in-person services by clicking here. If for some reason you are unable to join us in-person, we invite you to watch along live via our livestream. If you have any questions, please send us a message or call our church office at 812-332-6396 for more information.
