NEW PORT RICHEY, FL — The Florida Highway Patrol is investigating a hit-and-run accident on Sunday involving five vehicles.
According to the highway patrol, around 7 p.m. an SUV was driving east on State Road 54 near Promenade Parkway in the inside lane. A sedan driven by a 42-year-old Riverview resident was heading east on SR 54 in the center lane. A car driven by a 29-year-old New Port Richey man was heading west on SR 54 in the inside lane. An SUV driven by a 36-year-old Tarpon Springs resident was driving south in the center lane. And an SUV driven by a 27-year-old New Port Richey woman was traveling in the outside lane.
According to troopers, the first SUV improperly changed lanes and the right rear collided with the left front of the car in the center lane. This caused a chain reaction of collisions involving all five vehicles.
Afterward, the first SUV fled the scene. It is described as a dark-colored Dodge Durango or similar SUV. Five people sustained minor injuries.
