16 Schreiber HS Seniors National Merit Scholarship Finalists

PORT WASHINGTON, NY — Sixteen seniors from Paul D. Schreiber High School been named finalists in the National Merit Scholarship Program, according to a Port Washington Union Free School District news release. The students will be judged on their academic record, school curriculum and grading system, PSAT/NMSQT Selection Index score, written recommendation, extracurricular activities and leadership, and original essay, officials said. The students will be among nearly 7,600 finalists who will be notified if they have been selected to receive a Merit Scholarship award. The award includes a National Merit $2,500 scholarship, Corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship, or College-sponsored Merit Scholarship, according to officials. The 16 National Merit Scholarship Program finalists include: Shayne Bersin Isaac GoldsteinRyan KeslerMia KurtaJimin Lee Noah LoewyRajen Parekh Samantha RadinskyDaniel RuskinAlexandra SalzmanJacob SchorrNathaniel SendersGavin Gordon ShaubJeffrey SungErik TangAvery vonRoeschlaub High School Principal Ira Pernick said he couldn't be prouder of the students and "all they have accomplished." "Their work in the classroom and throughout the school illustrate their dedication not just to themselves, but to Schreiber High School as well," he said. Schools superintendent Michael Hynes said the national recognition is a "true testament" to the students' "academic abilities and unlimited potential." "On behalf of the Board of Education and the entire administration, we are exceptionally proud of our National Merit finalists and look forward to supporting them throughout the remainder of the competition," he said.
