MAHWAH, NJ — A construction worker at a Ramapo College work site was seriously injured when a gasket failed during testing Tuesday morning, Mahwah Police and college officials said. Workers were conducting what the college called a "standard pressure test" on a chiller line Tuesday morning when the gasket failed. Upon failure, an end cap was propelled toward one worker, striking him. Police officers, fire and rescue workers, Mahwah EMS and Valley Hospital paramedics arrived on the scene shortly after 8 a.m. and provided medical aid. The worker was eventually taken to Hackensack University Medical Center via ambulance, a college spokesperson said. The injury happened at the Learning Commons Library construction site, which has been temporarily shut down until Occupation Safety and Health Administration representatives can conduct an assessment, the spokesperson told Patch. Other operations at the college are expected to continue as scheduled. "Our thoughts are with the worker," college officials said.
