CHATHAM, NJ — An Irvington man took troopers on a chase Saturday before crashing into a median in Chatham Township, according to State Police. The incident began when authorities tried pulling over Jesse Roberson for speeding in Union Township, according to Sgt. Lawrence Peele.
Troopers saw a white Hyundai Elentra speeding just before 7:30 a.m. Saturday on Interstate 78 eastbound, Peele said. But the driver refused to pull over after police activated emergency lights and sirens, according to authorities.
The Hyundai moved from I-78 to Route 24 westbound before crashing into the center median at milepost 5 in Chatham Township, Peele said. Roberson, 30, was charged with eluding and received multiple motor-vehicle summonses.
Nobody else was in Roberson's car, and he didn't sustain serious injuries. No other vehicles were involved in the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
