NASHUA, NH — Nashua's mayor will host a state of the city speech on Tuesday. The speech will be held at 7 p.m. and broadcast on Channel 16 or live-streamed on the city's website here. Donchess is expected to speak about the state of coronavirus, aid to cities and schools, projects, and other information he has shared with the community, including during recent press conferences with health officials and others. While there is always good and bad news during governmental speeches, and officials look into the future, too, one bit of recent good news was the reaffirmation of the city's bond rating. Standards & Poor's Financial Services reaffirmed the city's AAA bond rating, the highest possible, earlier this month. The org noted the city's strong budgetary performance, strong city management, and a strong economy, according to officials. "A strong bond rating reflects the city of Nashua's sound financial management practices and the overall good health of our economy," Donchess stated. "It allows the city to sell bonds and borrow at reduced rates, which will positively affect all Nashua taxpayers." The city was able to issue $29.9 million bonds in January at 1.858 percent across 25 years to fund the Jackson Mills & Mine Falls Hydroelectric Dam and the Nashua Performing Arts Center. The city is one of only a few communities in the state with AAA bond ratings by both Standards & Poor's and Fitch. Got a news tip? Send it to [email protected].
