YARDLEY, PA — A group in Lower Makefield that already was pushed outdoors due to the coronavirus pandemic aren't letting a little (or even a lot) of snow keep them from staying active. Ted Berk shared some photos of the group, that has been playing pickleball every day on the tennis courts at Heacock Meadows in Lower Makefield. He said that, especially during the winter, most of the players typically play at one of the area's indoor tennis clubs. But, due to the pandemic, they've taken the game outdoors. Even the snowstorms that walloped the area over the past few weeks didn't stop them, as Ted's photos show. "We even removed the snow from the courts these past three snow storms, which is dedication," Berks said in an email to Patch. "It's a great sport. Very social and inexpensive." Pickleball is a paddle ball sport with elements of tennis, badminton and table tennis. Players use wood paddles and play in a space the same size as a badminton court with perforated balls that resemble wiffle balls. Pickleball was created in the mid-1960s on Bainbridge Island, Washington.
