PHILADELPHIA — A former Philadelphia Police office has accused of having a sexual relationship with a young girl while he was still employed with the department. According to the Philadelphia District Attorney's Office, former Philadelphia Police Officer Charles Young, 50, has been charged with involuntary deviate sexual intercourse, unlawful contact with a minor, statutory sexual assault, aggravated indecent assault, corruption of minors, all felonies. Young has also been charged with indecent assault, which is a misdemeanor. The DA's Office alleges the offenses occurred between 2004 and 2008. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, Young met the victim in 2004 when she was 14 years old. Young is accused of having a sexual relationship with the victim, who he would pick up from school in his private and police vehicle, over four years, the Inquirer reports. "Officers of the law have a high duty to earn and maintain the public's trust," District Attorney Larry Krasner said. "When trust in law enforcement is broken, the pursuit of justice and the public's safety suffers. The Philadelphia District Attorney's Office will do everything in our authority to seek justice on behalf of the Commonwealth, support the victim in this matter, and to hold former Philadelphia Police Officer Charles Young accountable for his crimes." Young was arrested Feb. 11 and is scheduled for a hearing on March 4.
