RIVERSIDE, IL — A Harvey woman who got into an accident in Riverside offered bribes to the victim and an officer, police said. She was arrested.
Diana Lucero Rosas-Cancino, 23, was charged with DUI, a hit-and-run accident and attempting to bribe a police officer, which is a Class 2 felony.
About noon Sunday, Rosas-Cancino was involved in a crash at Harlem Avenue and Addison Road, according to a police news release. On the way to the call, police learned Rosas-Cancino tried to bribe the 19-year-old victim with $5,000 in cash if he refrained from contacting the police, the release said.
When the other driver called police, she sped away heading west on East Burlington Street from Harlem, police said. The victim was uninjured.
Rosas-Cancino was apprehended in the 300 block of East Burlington behind an apartment complex, the release said. She failed a standard sobriety test and insisted she was still in Harvey, the release said.
According to police, when she was placed under arrest, she asked the officer, "How much money do you want right now to not arrest me?"
The officer replied that she did not want any money. But Rosas-Cancino tried bribing the officer several times, offering $5,000 to remove the handcuffs and let her go, despite being advised it was a crime to attempt to bribe an officer, police said.
Rosas-Cancino was positively identified by the victim, the release said. In the booking room, she again tried bribing the officer in exchange for dropping all charges, police said.
In September 2015, Rosas-Cancino was arrested on charges of DUI and a hit-and-run crash, police said.
Her criminal history also includes drugs, retail theft, domestic battery and contributing to the delinquency of a child, according to the police news release.
