GRAYSLAKE, IL — Grayslake resident Griffin Rebecca saved the life of a 42-year-old woman Feb. 6 when he pulled over, discovered the victim was choking and performed the Heimlich maneuver, according to the Lake County Sheriff. Rebecca was able to help the woman despite being attacked by her large-breed dog. According to a report from the Lake County Sheriff, Rebecca was driving eastbound on Route 120 near Mill Road in Wildwood, when he saw a car on the side of the road. Outside the car, a woman was bent over and clearly in distress. Rebecca pulled over, discovered the woman was choking and could not breathe, and promptly performed the Heimlich maneuver. While doing this, the woman's large-breed dog began attacking Rebecca. But the good Samaritan was not deterred, and he eventually freed the obstruction from the woman's airway. According to reports by the Lake County News-Sun, a sheriff's officer and paramedics eventually arrived and conducted a brief health check on the woman, a resident of Tulsa, Oklahoma. But the woman declined further treatment. Rebecca, meanwhile, came away with just a few minor dog bites. A COMMUNITY HERO!
