AURORA, IL — An Aurora man is facing several felony charges after police alleged he carjacked a driver Sunday afternoon just before crashing their car, police said. Jesse Valenciano, 40, was charged Monday with vehicular hijacking; receiving, possessing or selling a stolen motor vehicle; and leaving the scene of an accident involving damage to an attended vehicle, according to Kane County court records. As Priorities Shift Aurora police allege Valenciano carjacked a vehicle just after 1 p.m. Sunday as someone was taking items into their home in the 1000 block of Claim Street. Police allege Valenciano got into the car as it was idling and forced a passenger out of the car before trying to drive away. Witnesses reported the car was "swerving all over the road" before crashing into a car near the intersection of Liberty and Trask streets, according to police. Police allege Valenciano ran away from the crash because the car was too damaged to move. Aurora Man Convicted Of Sexually Assaulting Senior One of the victims of the carjacking chased down Valenciano and fought with him until officers showed up, police said. Valenciano is being held at the Kane County jail without bail. He is due to appear in court Friday. Aurora police did not report any injuries connected to the crash at Liberty and Trask streets.
