Seeking a general handy-person with the ability to perform basic job foreman responsibilities to join a rapidly growing and successful general contracting and construction business. In addition to hands-on skills, candidate must have excellent interpersonal skills to assist the owner with client management and tradesperson oversight for a variety of home improvement and general construction projects. Hours will be a minimum of 30 hours per week. The candidate will need to be able flex their time commitments upwards as workload dictates. Wages will be paid on an hourly basis at the rate of $20-30 per hour (depending on experience level and skill set) with overtime wages of 1.5 times the hourly wage for hours exceeding 40 in a week and paid on a bi-weekly basis (every other week). Skills and job requirements: ▪ experienced construction skills such as framing, painting, general repairs (install cabinet hardware, hang pictures, install wall art/towel bars, drywall patching, sanding), site prep, site maintenance and site clean- up as needed, run for materials/pick up supplies, provide hands-on assistance for on-site trades persons. (Any formal trades training or licenses are a plus and will be considered when determining hourly wage and job responsibilities.) ▪ Ability to safely use power tools. (Tools to be provided by Owner as required.) ▪ Basic ability to understand blueprints and design plans. Basic (high school level) math skills. ▪ Assist Owner in coordinating construction work according to priorities and plans. ▪ Monitor for job site security and unsafe conditions. Report adverse conditions to Owner immediately. ▪ Participate in problem-solving to troubleshoot issues and challenges as they arise. Must be a team-player who is able to react to Client demands and unforeseen issues with a positive attitude. ▪ Ability to communicate Client needs and feedback to Owner and need-to-know individuals on a timely basis and effectively and appropriately communicate with all parties, Clients, Owner, building management personnel, back office staff and subcontractors. ▪ Must provide their own transportation to and from a variety of job sites in and around the greater Chicago area. Owner will reimburse for excess vehicle use and parking as required. ▪ Driver’s license must be in good standing and driving record free of significant infractions.
