PETERBOROUGH, NH — New Hampshire State Police believe driver fatigue may have played a role in a fatal traffic accident on Saturday on Route 101 in Peterborough. Police were sent to the area near Field Road at just after 10:30 p.m. for a report of a serious accident with injuries. When they arrived, they found a Volkswagen Jetta, being driven by a 21-year-old man from Milford, had collided with a Ford Escape SUV. The driver in the Jetta was heading west when he lost control of the vehicle, crossed the center dividing line, and into the eastbound land, according to Sgt. Greg Dube of the New Hampshire State Police. The driver then collided with the Escape. The SUV was being driven by Ryan Kerick, 39, of Manchester. "Kerick had with him, at the time of the crash, his juvenile daughter," Dube said. " Kerick sustained fatal injuries as a result of this collision. (The Milford driver) sustained serious bodily injury and was transported to the Elliott Hospital in Manchester. Kerick's daughter did not suffer serious physical injury." Did you like this story? Route 101 was closed for several hours during the investigation. Dube said, "at this time, it does appear that fatigue was a factor in this crash," although all aspects remain under investigation. State police were assisted by the New Hampshire Department of Transportation, Peterborough police, and Peterborough firefighters.
