The San Diego County Health and Human Services Agency reported 568 new coronavirus cases Sunday, the lowest number since the fall, and 28 more deaths from the disease.
Out of 13,700 test results received in the past day, 4% were positive, as the 14-day rolling average of positive tests ticked down again, this time to 5.8%. As recently as mid-January, the average was near 15%.
The case rate continues to decline as vaccinations increase, despite a recent shortage of the Moderna vaccine. The county reported that 597,945 doses of both vaccines have been administered, with 116,060 residents fully vaccinated after two doses.
Eight community outbreaks were reported Sunday, bringing the total over the past week to 62. There were 255 cases associated with those outbreaks.
The number of community outbreaks during the pandemic totals 1,286.
Hospitalizations were up by 27, with four more patients moved to intensive care. Hospitalizations overall though have been steadily declining since Jan. 11.
A new COVID-19 vaccination site opened Sunday in Vista, with personnel capable of providing up to 500 doses daily.
The new clinic will be open from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Sundays and Mondays at the Linda Rhoades Recreation Center, 600 North Santa Fe Ave.
Since the first local case last March, there have been 252,250 cases of COVID-19 and 3,037 deaths.
