CASTRO VALLEY, CA — A family and their dog were rescued early Sunday morning after their vehicle reportedly slid more than 150 feet off the road and into a heavily wooded ravine along Crow Canyon Road in Castro Valley, the Alameda County Sheriff's Office said on Facebook. The family was spotted around 2 a.m. after the driver called for help. Initially, the driver was uncertain where he was on the road due to heavy brush. Deputies searched until they found the family in the 5300 block of Crow Canyon Road. "Deputies called the driver back on his cell phone and utilized their emergency lighting to narrow down the search area," the statement read. The family was still in their vehicle, which was heavily damaged and appeared to have fallen 150 feet off the road and 200 feet into the ravine, officials said. The family and their dog were escorted out of the ravine and to medical personnel on the scene. "We are thankful our deputies were able to locate and help this family to safety," deputies wrote in the statement.
