Press release from the Town of Northborough: February 11, 2021 Notice of Application for: Shared Winter Streets and Spaces Grant ProgramTown of Northborough The Northborough Department of Public Works is applying for the Shared Winter Streets and Spaces Grant, offered by the Massachusetts Department of Transportation with a submission deadline of February 26, 2021. If awarded, Northborough DPW will purchase and install solar-powered pedestrian activated rapid flashing crosswalk lights, appropriate signage, and compliant wheelchair ramps at the following crosswalks: South Street at Davis Avenue (Ellsworth McAfee Park) South Street at Longfellow Road (Ellsworth McAfee Park) South Street at Gale Street (Assabet Park) East Main Street between Memorial Field and Casey Field The project goal is to improve safety and visibility in these high-traffic crossing areas, often used by the town's school children, senior citizens and other residents. In addition, we are seeking funding to purchase and install bicycle racks at our parks as a means of improving cyclist safety and increasing use of our recreational facilities.
