BEVERLY HILLS, CA — "If you can be anything, be kind," goes the old saying, and in a time of insurrection, impeachment, unemployment, and pandemics, a little kindness can go a long way. Starting Valentine's Day, the Beverly Hills Human Relations Commission is preparing a series of virtual community events aimed at promoting kindness at a time when it's needed more than ever. "As we know, kindness is being friendly, generous, considerate, and so many other actions that describe acts of love," Human Relations Commission Chair Ori Blumenfeld said in a statement. "Kindness Week is meant to inspire all to practice and spread genuine and random acts of kindness in their own lives - this week and every single day." The week's signature event will be a talk and Q&A with Leon Logothetis, an author, motivational speaker, and host of the Netflix series "The Kindness Diaries." For over a decade, Logothetis has traveled all over the world on just a motorcycle and $5 day, and must rely only on the kindness of strangers for food, water, gas, and shelter in order to survive. Logothetis will describe his experiences on Feb. 16 at 6 p.m. Register at beverlyhills.org/bekind. The week will also feature: Social media kindness challenges from the Beverly Hills Teen Advisory Committee, which will be posted each day from Feb. 14-19 on the @CommunityLifeBH Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram accounts. Challenges include decorating a window with a message of kindness, creating a kindness rock for the Kindness Rocks Garden at Roxbury Park, sending a letter of kindness to someone who you think needs, it and more.
