Central Presbyterian Church in Eugene is looking for a part-time maintenance custodian. $15.00 per hour. Please send cover letter and resume and put maintenance custodian in the subject line. JOB DESCRIPTION: Maintenance Custodian Reports to: Office Manager Directly Supervises: No one Status: Part-time Approximately 20 hours per week FLSA: Non-Exempt Job Summary To provide general maintenance and custodial services for the church facility and surrounding property. Essential Functions • Maintain the heating boiler system. • Perform lawn and yard care duties. • Plan and coordinate maintenance projects with the Chair of Properties or their designee. • Provide input and assist in formulating the weekly list of projects. • Perform room set-ups for groups meeting in the building. • Perform cleaning tasks according to the schedule or as needed. • Schedule with the Chair of Properties, or their designee, special outside cleaning, or maintenance projects. • Provide additional security checks of vehicles parked on the property and issue tickets as needed for those parked without permits or in incorrect designated spots. Other Responsibilities • Receive verbal consent from the Office Manager, or in that person’s absence, the Chair of Church Properties, before starting any non-emergency maintenance repair project lasting more than two hours or costing more than $200. • Meet weekly with the Office Manager. • Meet monthly with Church Properties Committee. • Operate and maintain the heating and ventilating systems, including identifying problems with the steam heating system and making repairs. • Test for chemicals in the boiler water and make adjustments to the chemical feed as needed. • Operate and maintain the security systems (doors, locks, controls, etc.). • Operate and maintain the lighting and sound systems. • Adjust, clean, maintain and repair equipment (e.g., oil fans, adjust door closures, monitor air filter, etc.). • Maintain the plumbing system, including minor repairs. • Purchase supplies and materials needed for routine maintenance activities up to a maximum of $200. • Check outside doors and landscaping by walking the perimeter of the building. Check that doors are locked, check the windows for breakage, pick up trash and check for unhoused people on the property. Report problems in the log or leave messages describing maintenance problems to the supervisor. • Be knowledgeable of the schedule of use for all spaces and facilities and the need for room set-ups of tables, chairs, etc. Make sure room set-ups are done prior to meetings, special services, or events. • Operate sound system and lights for periodic services and events during normal work hours. • Coordinate with outside maintenance and custodial contractors as needed. • Complete work as directed by the supervisor (Sacristan) in the worship spaces. • Attend staff meetings. • Follow prescribed personnel policies. • Reports incidents to the Office Manager or Chair of Church Properties in a timely manner. • Other tasks and duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications • Experience/training in building maintenance and management. This includes, but not limited to a working knowledge in basic building care, floor cleaning procedures, basic electrical and plumbing. • Knowledge of heating and cooling systems. This includes, but not limited to, a basic knowledge in maintaining a heating boiler system or the ability and willingness to learn how to maintain a heating boiler system. • Possess skills of basic yard and lawn care. • Demonstrated independent work and time management skills. • Proven organizational skills. • Effective & timely interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of texting and computers/e-mail. • Able to follow personal appearance and conduct guidelines. Physical Requirements This position requires some heavy lifting (50 lbs.), climbing ladders up to 25 feet and work with hand and power tools.
